Eddy Ledger

J.P. Eddy Ledgers

Eddy's Account Book

J.P. Eddy Account Book

From 1840-1843, J.P. Eddy was the designated Indian Agent in the settlement of Hard Fish which is now known as the city of Eddyville.  Trading with the Sac & Fox tribes, Eddy kept a ledger of his trades with the local natives.  Information recorded in the ledger included the name of the head of each family and the number of members, creating a census of native inhabitants during this time period.  It also records their purchases, which included fabric, blankets, powder, lead, scalping knives, saddles, paint, food items, etc.

This is a copy of J.P. Eddy's account book for his general store.  It lists purchases made by white settlers in the area during the 1843-1844 period.
